On July 24,
1847,
Brigham Young and the first company of
Mormon Pioneers arrived in the Salt Lake Valley. At least within the state of Utah, where Pioneer Day is a state holiday, the 24th is an all-out day of celebration. Parades, rodeos, and fireworks shows are held across the state. The main Days of '47 Parade held in Salt Lake is quite large and is broadcast over the local television channels. A member of the
First Presidency often rides in the parade. -source
http://www.mormonwiki.com/Mormon_HolidaysBrigham Young brought the Mormon Church to Utah to escape religious persecution. Today, the once persecuted Mormons, persecute gays. On November 15th 2008, thousands of us took to the streets of our cities to protest this persecution. It's time now, to take this protest to their doorstep.
Pioneer day will be held on July 24th, 2009. On the day Mormons celebrate their escape from religious intolerance, maybe they'll remember what second-class citizenship feels like. They crashed our wedding dreams. This time, we will crash their party.
It's time for a national Road Trip!
We need volunteers to help organize this.
We need performers to volunteer their talents to draw the crowds.
We need a location to camp as we don't want any of our money trickling into Mormon hands.
We need local gays who know the turf to help out with info and ideas.
We need people to sign up and pledge their attendance.
And we need someone with a little more talent to volunteer to make this page a lil prettier.
